POLAR-1, set to be commissioned at the South Pole in the fall of 2012, will be the first in a projected array of ten next-generation, polarization-sensitive receivers. With a large-format focal plane camera integrated with a 1.6 meter reflective telescope, POLAR-1 will be able to detect and characterize B-mode polarization and distinguish lensing effects from the cosmic gravitational wave background. When completed, it will be the most sensitive CMB polarimeter currently in operation. This section of the website is currently under construction. |
