Cambrésy R-band Extinction Maps

Description

Extinction maps based on star-counting are a direct measure of column densities in star-forming regions. The data presented here are maps made by Cambrésy (1999) (ADS link). Star counts are from R-band images from the digitized POSS and ESO red plates. The resolution is variable over the map, since the grid size is automatically scaled to the density of stars. For an alternative approach with a fixed grid size and using infrared colors see our 2MASS-based extinction maps.

Maps are available only for Ophiuchus and Serpens.
