Graduate Student Research Forum: 9/23/2008 Haiku Session Information

Information from L. Greenhill's haiku

Movie 1: Simulation of reionization by Nick Gnedin (Colorado). Emergence of an ionized universe appears as radiation eats into the cold Hydrogen left-over after cosmological recombination.

Movie 2: CGI flyover of the MWA 5% prototype now in construction at Boolardy, Western Australia. There are 32 tiles of 16 bowtie dipole antennas. Each tile is 5m across. The final MWA will contain 512 tiles distributed over about a 2 sq. kilometers.

Opportunities exist for research that includes construction of instrumentation, observations, and theory. Additional opportunities exist through collaboration with the IIC for work on high performance computing in astronomy via use of Graphics Processing Units (i.e., computer gaming cards)!
