Laboratory Astrophysics

Associated Faculty and Web Pages listed below.

Most of the information about the universe is brought to us as photons. Laboratory Astrophysics is involved with basic measurements and calculations of the processes that produce photons and the interactions of photons with atomic and molecular systems. In Laboratory Astrophysics, theory and experiment work together to provide a deep understanding of atomic and molecular phenomena and to develop a database of important atomic and molecular parameters that enter into the quantitative interpretation of the spectra of astronomical objects. Laboratory astrophysics includes the development of instrumentation for the detection and measurement of particles and photons.
