Abstract Submission

SOHO-23: Understanding a Peculiar Solar Minimum

All participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for contributed talks and posters on the general topics of the meeting. Abstract submission is now open.

In response to requests to submit more than one contributed abstract, the policy has been changed as follows. No more than two abstracts may be submitted as first author by each registered participant. In the case of more than one submission, the participant should clearly designate the priority (1st or 2nd) for each contributed abstract. Ultimately, the SOC will decide on the number of 2nd priority abstracts accepted, based in part on the available number of poster boards.

The SOC, in combination with individual session committees, will schedule the contributed talks from the submitted abstracts. The SOC will notify each participant by 15 August 2009 to inform him/her about whether the abstract is accepted for a contributed talk or a poster. The instructions for filling out the abstract submittal form along with examples are provided below. The abstracts will be included in the Program/Abstract Book. Each registered participant may be the primary (lead and presenting) author on no more than two contributed abstracts, but they must be marked as first and second priority, and available board space will be a consideration for accepting the latter.

Instructions for filling out the abstract submittal form

Please fill out the seven fields of the abstract submittal form in plain text using the guidelines provided below.

1. Title: Capitalize the first letter of the first word in the title. All other letters and words, except proper nouns, e.g. Sun, Earth, etc; and common abbreviations like CME, MHD, etc., should use lower case.

2. Author list: Use only capital letters for author name(s). Authors should be listed with the last name first, followed by a comma and then the initials of the first and middle names. A comma is not needed before the conjunction with the last author. Each author's name should be followed by a caret symbol and the number designation for the affiliation. A single author can have multiple affiliations if needed. If all authors use the same affiliation, then no number designation is needed.

3. Affiliations: List the institution, city, (state or province), (postal code) and country. Please use a superscript number, denoted with a ^ (caret symbol) before the affiliation if more than one affiliation is needed.

4. Email address of Primary Author: The primary author should provide his/her email address for notification of the abstract status (poster or oral presentation).

5. Presentation Preference: Click on the arrow button to select the preferred type of presentation (oral, poster, or no preference)

Note: The SOC will notify each participant by 15 August 2009 to inform him/her about whether the abstract is accepted for an oral or poster presentation.

6. Preferred session: Select the session which would fit your abstract best.

7. Abstract body: The abstract should be limited to 300 words. Each paragraph should start *without* an indentation for the first line. Authors should refrain from using reference citations in the abstract. However, if someone feels compelled to use a citation, the citation and the reference should be made in the body of the text using standard compact abbreviations for the journal names; include the volume number and starting page number (if known).

Example for a citation:

"These results are consistent with those described by Smith, et al. (2007, ApJ 695, 111)."

Example for superscripts and subscripts:

Superscripts should be preceded by a caret symbol and subscripts should be preceded by an underscore. Examples for using superscripts and subscripts: "very high electron densities (N_e > 10^13 cm^-3) were measured up to 4 R_s."

Examples for using Greek symbols (surround with braces and spell out):
"measurements at {rho} = 1.5 were made."
"for strong magnetic fields ({beta} > 1) we have"
