Title: Gamma-Ray Bursts---A Mystery Solved?

Abstract: Since their discovery in 1967 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) remained a deep mystery. 1997 has brought a revolution in GRB science due to identification of their X-ray, optical and radio afterglows. I will review briefly the history of GRBs and then concentrate on recent GRB developments, highlighting results obtained by our group. I will then discuss the future directions in the GRB science, especially in the SWIFT era.
