Title:
Observing The X-ray Sun
Abstract:
Magnetized plasmas are ubiquitous throughout all of astrophysics
and are responsible for much of the observed dynamics. But only
the terrestrial magnetosphere and the solar atmosphere are observable
in enough detail to allow stringent tests of theories designed to understand
the variability of these sources. We will provide an overview
of the major coronal physics problems and discuss the present status of coronal
studies using X-ray imaging. We conclude with a description of two space
flight programs being carried out at the CfA, Solar-B and the Solar Dynamics
Observatory.
