Title: Estimating Cosmological Parameters from the Cosmic Background Radiation

Speaker: George Efstathiou

Abstract: Over the next decade, two satellite experiments are planned to map the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation to extremely high precision. Such measurements can provide constraints on fundamental cosmological parameters to unprecedented precision, far beyond those achievable by conventional astronomical techniques. I will discuss these proposed experiments and describe some of the limitations of parameter estimation from CMB observations. In particular, I will focus on degeneracies, or near degeneracies, between cosmological parameters and discuss how these degeneracies may be broken.
