Use of Harvard University Facilities
 

Harvard Cooperative Society

Upon presentation of an SAO ID card, SAO employees are eligible for membership in the Harvard Coop (a chain of department stores in the Cambridge/Boston area). Apply by mail or in person at their Credit Office located at 1400 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge. For further information, call the Harvard Coop at (617) 495-2000 and ask for the Credit Office.

Harvard University Athletic Facilities

Employees may purchase a Harvard University athletic facility membership from the Harvard University Athletics' Ticket Office. Employees may use the following athletic facilities when not in use by Harvard students: squash courts, swimming pool, ice skating rink, boat houses, tennis courts, and exercise equipment. It is advisable to call the Department of Athletics before using any of these facilities to verify their availability. Athletic equipment and supplies may be checked out from Dillon Field House.

The Department of Athletics' ticket office is located in the lower level of Harvard Hall in the Yard (see directions below). Football, hockey, basketball, and other sports tickets, as well as athletic participation stickers for Extension and Faculty of Arts and Sciences affiliates and central administration staff, are available at this location.

The Department of Athletics' Ticket Office is located on the first floor of the Murr Center, 65 N. Harvard Street, Cambridge (phone: (617) 495-2211). Call for information about the cost of athletic cards and other fees.

Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Center

Upon paying an annual subscription fee, SAO employees may use the Athletic Center at 66 Garden Street for lunch-time exercise. Passes are available to purchase at the beginning of each academic year. For more information, refer to the Social and Recreational Committee webpage.

HARVARD GAZETTE/HARVARD CRIMSON

The HARVARD GAZETTE and the HARVARD CRIMSON contain information concerning local concerts, lectures and seminars available to the public and/or Harvard personnel. To order the CRIMSON, call (617) 495-7890 (a nominal fee may be charged); the GAZETTE is distributed to divisions/departments throughout the Center for Astrophysics.

Harvard Student Resources and Harvard International Office

The Harvard Student Resources office can provide information regarding foreign language tutors. For further information, call (617) 495-3033.

The Harvard International Office will provide information about English language courses and other activities available to foreigners who are new to the Cambridge area. For further information, call (617) 495-2789.

Harvard University Employee's Credit Union

An SAO employee who works a minimum of 40 hours per pay period is eligible to join the Harvard University Employees' Credit Union. The Credit Union offers competitive interest rates, low-cost personal loans, home improvement loans, and much more. All savings are insured in accordance with Massachusetts law. Interest is earned and compounded monthly on accounts maintaining a minimum balance of $25.00. Financial statements are issued quarterly.

You may become a member and establish an account by direct deposit or through biweekly payroll deductions. Brochures, application cards, and forms for biweekly payroll deductions may be obtained from the Department of Human Resources by calling (617) 495-7371. Employees must send or bring their completed membership cards, including written signatures (not printed names), directly to the Harvard Employees' Credit Union with a $25.00 deposit and an SAO ID card. The Credit Union is located in Harvard Square, Holyoke Center (9th floor) and the telephone number is (617) 495-4460.

Harvard University Library

Arrangements may be made for employees to obtain books from Harvard University (and MIT) through an interlibrary loan system. For additional information on library services, please contact the Wolbach Library at the Center for Astrophysics, (617) 495-7266.
