In the event of storms or other emergencies, SAO employees will be notified as to operations status via SAO Alerts. All employees are strongly encouraged to register for SAO Alerts by following the instructions provided at http://www.alerts.si.edu/mobilealerts.html.

Should a storm or other emergency develop during regular working hours, the SAO Human Resources Director will also announce any early dismissal by sending an SAO-wide email.

Refer to the section of this handbook, Leave Guidance for Weather-related Dismissals and Delayed Arrivals, for detailed information regarding charging time during these weather-related emergencies.
