DUTIES: This is the position of IT Specialist (APPSW), Telescope Data Center (TDC), Optical and Infrared Astronomy Division (OIR), Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), Cambridge, MA. The purpose of this position is to develop sophisticated software pipelines to acquire, reduce, analyze, and archive spectroscopic and imaging data obtained at the MMT, Magellan, and Whipple Observatory telescopes.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to Basic Requirements above, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (11). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining software; testing, releasing and installing incremental software upgrades; and communicating with scientific and technical staff to translate technical objectives or research goals into software requirements.
