A Thermal Engineer loads one of four Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) telescopes into a thermal vacuum chamber in the Central Engineering Materials and Environmental Test Laboratory at Cambridge Discovery Park. Thermal bakeout of telescope hardware intended for use in space is performed to minimize contamination of sensitive optical equipment. The AIA is part of the Solar Dynamics Observatory, currently scheduled to launch in 2008.
