This image of a student studying the difference between "essential" and "accidental" properties of matter as an introduction to scientific classification was taken by Clive Grainger of the Science Media Group at CfA. It was awarded Second Place (People/Amateur), in Smithsonian Institution's 2005 "Eyes on the World" photo contest, a juried competition open to the Smithsonian community.
