An optical image of a region in the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant. The red color signals the presence of hydrogen, green - oxygen, and blue - neon. SAO astronomers found that at least 50% of the silicon in the dust is liberated by the powerful shocks that produced this glowing remnant.
