![]() This image was taken by the AIA 193 Angstrom telescope, which views the solar corona at a temperature of about 1.5 million degrees Kelvin. Venus can be clearly seen as a black circle on the disk of the Sun.

Venus is just outside the limb of the sun, silhouetted against the corona, which is glowing in the X-rays. The movie from XRT shows venus following a curious curved path, as opposed to the straight path seen in AIA. This curved path is due to the polar orbit of the Hinode satellite.
