Release No.: 04-09 Two Naked-Eye Comets At Once! For Release: Wednesday, February 25, 2004
 | On February 9, 2004, the MicroObservatory telescope in Amado, Arizonatookthis photograph of Comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR). Comet LINEAR is one of twocomets expected to brighten to naked-eye visibility by May of 2004. Thetailappears a fifth of a degree long in this image, which would translate intoareal length in space of over 1.4 million miles (or 2.3 million km). TheMicroObservatory Project, created by the Science Education group at theHarvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, allows students andteachersacross the nation to use telescopes over the Internet to take picturesofobjects in the night sky.
