 The Annenberg Channel

The Annenberg Channel is a free satellite/Web service broadcasting 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to provide educational programming for schools, colleges, and communities. The Channel is produced by Annenberg/CPB with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and is funded by Annenberg/CPB. While it is intended for a broad viewership, the special focus of the Channel is on teacher professional development and distance learning. Due to the successful outreach efforts of the Science Education Department, the Channel currently is able to reach approximately 66,000 schools -- over half of the schools in the country! -- and more than 41 million households.

In addition to managing the Channel, the Science Education Department has also produced interactive workshops for K–12 teachers and principals, with more series currently in production. These workshops have responded to the needs of schools under scrutiny to turn out better educated students by helping teachers apply new learning strategies that work for a larger, more diverse student population.
