Dear Gurkan,
    Thanks for using Miriad.
Which SMA Miriad version that you are trying to install?
There are two versions around,
1) Miriad for 2GHz (http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/sma/miriad/)
which has been well tested for the old SMA data (2008 and earlier)
taken with 2GHz BW backend. This version is also distributed
with the regular Miriad distribution by BIMA.
2) A beta version Miriad for 4GHz
   (http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/sma/miriad/download/) which has been
developed for handling SMA data taken with 4GHz BW backend and is
in debugging with our internal users.
The installation for RH5.5 (has binary version) and FC9
should be no problems. You are welcome to use the beta version and
help us to debug. Can you send us any specific problems in
your installation on Debian and Ubuntu? We will ask users around, who
may have the experience on Debian/Ubuntu, for help.
We know that Mac are now very popular. We are requesting for purchasing
a Mac computer in order to support the growing Mac community for using
the SMA Miriad. Hope we can solve the problems for the users in your
   department soon.

   Happy 2011!

   Jun-Hui
