Dear Shih-Ping,
Great, you now can login obsconh.
Can you do me a favor by checking the following things
after you login obsconh?

type "which smaflux"
type "echo $MIRCAT"

If "which smaflux" prompts up
"/sma/local/miriad_cvs/bin/linux/smaflux"
and "$MIRCAT" shows "/sma/local/miriad_cvs/cat", then you may
try smaflux again to see if your problem persists.

If "which smaflux" and "$MIRCAT" direct to other places, you may need to
clean up your environment setup (may ask somebody in Hilo for help)
and re-login again.

Dear Jun-Hui,

It's me again! I finally got to login obsconh and tested smaflux there.
Unfortunately, I got the exactly same error message I got from my computer.

------------------
[smaguest@obsconh slai]$ smaflux vis=smaflux
vis=110125_rx1.usb.tsys.48.bp select='pol(ll,rr),so(titan)'
mirhome=$MIR
SmaFlux: version 1.1 17-02-07

Found solar system objects: titan
 MJD=  55586.4688
### Fatal Error [smaflux]: the Julian date has exceeded the limit.
------------------

If you would like to test my file, it is at

/sma/reduction/smaguest/slai/110125_rx1.usb.tsys.48.bp

It should be readable for you. This file is generated from
the data reduction script you provided online.

I am telling you that I am very good at funding bugs of the system
everywhere I go... Since I have bothered you so much,
if you need a tester for miriad I can do that for you if I am not too busy.

Right now, I hope there is some way I can get around this bug....

cheers,
Shih-Ping

Dear Shih-Ping,
Good to know that you have verified the ephemeris that has been
updated. Now it appears to be system issues on rtdchilo2
and your computer. I recall that I did run into some problems
on rtdchilo2 last summer. Or there might be possible environment setting
problems. We have recently installed the binary version of Miriad
beta 1.3.1 on obsconh at Hilo site:
http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/sma/miriad/manuals/Where/
Please try that installation on obsconh in hilo.
Please let us know if the problem persists.

Dear Jun-Hui

I am convinced that the latest version of smaflux is not working
properly. It's not the installation problem on my part
and it is not the problem of ephemeris catalogs.

Here are some facts:

1. I downloaded bRHsmaMiriad20May2011.tar.gz and did binary
installation following the instruction,
and nothing work. No matter what tasks I run, I got "Floating exception".

2. I uploaded my file to rtdchilo2 at Hilo, and what I got is exactly
the same as the message I got from my
own computer (with the version from regular installation)

[slai@rtdchilo2 very_extended]$ smaflux vis=110125_rx1.usb.tsys.48.bp
select='pol(ll,rr),so(titan)' mirhome=$MIR
SmaFlux: version 1.1 17-02-07
Found solar system objects: titan
 MJD=  55586.4688
### Fatal Error [smaflux]: the Julian date has exceeded the limit.

3. Look at the ephemeris catalogs in $MIR/cat/smaplmdl,
those catalogs do cover the the Julian date of my observations.

Julian date of the ephemeris catalogs : 52640 to 55926
My observations: MJD= 55586.4688

So, from the fact that the latest version of smaflux is 17-02-07 version,
I seriously wonder if this version can really handle the 4 GHz mode data.

I am sorry for bothering you so much, but I really like doing
everything in miriad and
want to avoid MIR as much as I can...

cheers,
Shih-Ping

2011/6/14 Jun-Hui Zhao <jzhao@cfa.harvard.edu>:
The code smaflux.for has not been changed since Feb. 17, 2007.
So in beta 1.3.1, 'SmaFlux: version 1.1 17-02-07' has been kept.
In other words, you were using the latest version of smaflux but
the out-of-date ephemeris catalogs which caused you the fatal error
in smaflux. The problem should have gone by using
the beta Miriad 1.3.1 where the ephemeris has been updated.

Please use beta Miriad 1.3.1. Here is the tarball of the binary
codes (beta 1.3.1) which contains the latest version of "smaflux":
http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/sma/miriad/download/smaMiriadDB/bRHsmaMiriad20May2011.tar.gz
This also can be found from http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/sma/miriad/download/

Dear Jun-Hui,

I understand that you must have a lot of things to do, but
I would be very much appreciate if I can get the latest 'smaflux' now
because I need to combine a few tracks.

I think my computer has Red hat 6.0 operating system,
so perhaps sending me a binary code would work?

Shih-Ping

Dear Shih-Ping,
The beta 1.3.1 has updated the emphemeris catalogs for the solar

caused by the old emphemeris data catalogs should have gone.
Good catching! We will update the version number of SMAFLUX to reflect
the ephemeris updating in our next release.

Dear Jun-Hui,

I did follow the regular installation steps, and I am able
to read 4GHz data with polarization and even get fantastic results.
My only problem is that smaflux came with smaMiriad20May2011.tar
is not the newest version according to you.
Here are some inquiry of the version information

MIRIAD version <<<<<<< VERSION: beta 1.3.1. 2011-05-20 for handling
SMA 4GHz and 2GHz mode data. >>>>>>> [CVS] loaded from
MIR=/n/astromake/opt/miriad_cvs
  Optimized for telescope=sma

[slai@sky ~]$ which smaflux
/n/astromake/opt/miriad_cvs/bin/linux/smaflux
[slai@sky ~]$ more /n/astromake/opt/miriad_cvs/VERSION
<<<<<<< VERSION:
beta 1.3.1. 2011-05-20 for handling SMA 4GHz and 2GHz mode data.

[slai@sky ~]$ smaflux
SmaFlux: version 1.1 17-02-07
### Fatal Error [smaflux]: No input files were given.

Dear Jun-Hui,

Thanks for your response, but I really just downloaded
smaMiriad20May2011.tar few days ago from the link you provided.
Could you please tell me how to update smauvspec and smaflux to newer
verion?

Many thanks!!

Dear Shih-Ping,
Again your version of Miriad for SMA data reduction appears
to be out of date. The Fatal Error in "smaflux" that you reported is
related to the ephemeris of the solar objects which has been
updated in the beta release (SMA beta release 1.3.1).
