1) Questions and Answers on SMA data reduction in Miriad
2) New features and updatings in next release beta 1.4.4
The task is to read the SMA catlog and merge the data with those from other miriad catalogs. It currently supports the following features (options): c smaft Means taking CatPolFlux.cat data only to plot flux-time curve c smalpt Means taking CatPolFlux.cat data only to plot linearPol-time curve c smapat Means taking CatPolFlux.cat data only to plot PA-time curve c smapaf Means taking CatPolFlux.cat data only to plot PA-freq curve
Some of users use different names for their mosaic fields. This ends up a large number of sources that saturates the allocated memory and causes segfault. In fact, users could use a single source name with offsets for mosaicing observations. The imaging facility in Miriad can properly handle the offsets. SMA observer guide would be better to provide users such an option.
This is a new variable that provided in SMA online data storing it in the sp structure based on Ken Young. CSO tau supposes to be a zenith opacity of the sky, having one measured value at a time. The sp structure is a metrix of baselines x spectral windows. There could be 28*48 = 1344 redundances (?) or we have to solve the metrix for the antenna based tau? Check with Ken Young. This will be a useful variable for observer to check with their calibration. We will support this feature with graphic tool in Miriad.
This is a similar catalog to FluxSource.cat for CARMA-BIMA. In addition to flux density, we also catalog fractional linear polarization, position angle of linear polarization, circular polarization. Record name of leakage correction files. The purposes of this catalog are : 1) Provide users a reference for their calibrations in both flux density and polarization. 2) Share the SMA calibrators information with other observatories. 3) Provide a database for modeling calibrators' (point source) time/frequency behavior for miriad calibration tasks in case no planets are included. 4) A calibrator database for SMA miriad users. We plan to supply this catalog online accessible with web browsers in addition to the SMA Miriad release.
3) Progress on developing a catalog of calibrators in polarization at submillimeter wavelengths
Most data from 3C84 monitoring since 2011Dec and some polarization observations since 2005. Need students and users for help to populate this catalog.
3C84 shifts to a day time. The flux density is back to under 10 Jy.
Pat Mailhot is working on the archive and will provide an online accessible tool for users/engineers to check out.
4) CARMA Summer School
There are a few slots available for CARMA summer school. Students at SMA/CFA, who are interested in using millimeter/submillimeter arrays (such as ALMA, CARMA, SMA ...), are encouraged to apply.
