The identification of over 1000 exoplanet candidates by NASA's Kepler mission (Borucki et al. 2011) provides new opportunities for testing planet formation theories. These results are complementary to the exoplanet population discovered by Doppler surveys, as the two methods have significantly different detection sensitivities. I will discuss a few interesting aspects of these two populations and how they can be used to test planet formation theories.
