Coronal Observation 1

Purpose: Perform measurement of coronal proton temperature, outflow velocity, and electron density. The primary observable quantities are resonantly scattered Ly-alpha profile, OVI intensity, visible polarized radiance. This mode is expected to be used 35% of the time.

Description: Duration 0.5 to 2 hours. There will be several versions with different dwell times, each one optimized for a particular type of target (streamers, quiet corona, coronal holes). Scan telescope mirror from radial position 1.5 to 5.0 R (TBC). There are 30 mirror positions, with step size ranging from 0.05 to 0.2 R (TBC). At each mirror position, measure resonantly scattered Ly-alpha profile. Dwell times increase with height in the corona. Intensities of OVI 1032/1037 Å are also measured. Polarized visible radiance is measured at one position along the spectrograph entrance slit for each mirror position.
