Synoptic Observation

Purpose: Perform measurement of coronal proton temperature, outflow velocity, and electron density. The primary observable quantities are resonantly scattered Ly-alpha profile, OVI intensity, visible polarized radiance.

Description: Duration 27 minutes. There will be several versions with different dwell times, each one optimized for a particular target (streamers, quiet corona, coronal holes). Using the mirror mechanism, scan through the following radial positions in the corona: 1.5, 1.8, 2.2, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 R (TBC). At each mirror position, measure resonantly scattered Ly-alpha profile. Dwell times increase with height in the corona. Intensities of OVI 1032/1037 Å are also measured. Polarized visible radiance is measured at one position along the spectrograph entrance slit for each mirror position.
