Data Rights, Access and Publication Policy

The following table lists the data rights and limitations for UVCS data. Subsequent sections describe the policies for co-ordination, Guest Investigators, collaborations and publication.

* Subject to co-ordination scheme. In all disputes, the PI, in consultation with the Co-PI, arbitrates and his decision is final.

** The PI in consultation with the Co-PI will appoint UVCS EOF Scientists for specific original projects. (UVCS EOF Scientists can be anyone so designated by th PI.)

  1. Co-ordination Scheme

There will be a co-ordination scheme where the PI in consultation with the Co-PI distributes the UVCS data. Requests to look at particular data-sets should be sent to the PI or Co-PI. This should be accompanied by some comment on the scientific study envisaged, since one can imagine situations where the same data-set is being analyzed by two different teams with very different aims.

  2. Guest Investigator Scheme

There will be a Guest Investigator (GI) scheme, possibly starting with an Announcement of Opportunity from ESA and NASA in the year leading up to launch. The UVCS team intends to make the best possible use of Guest Investigators by encouraging extended visits ( one month) to the EOF with participation in operations. US potential GIs will apply directly to NASA and will be judged by representatives of the SOHO PIs. European potential GIs will go through a similar system but will also need to apply to their own funding agencies. For more information on the GI scheme, contact Dr. Vicente Domingo, SOHO, Space Science Dept., ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

  3. Collaborations

The highest level of data access is given to the PI, Co-PI and Co-I group. UVCS EOF Scientists, Non-US Associate Scientists, Guest Investigators or people not associated with UVCS Investigation may gain access as specified in the table above. A list of the Co-I's and non-US Associated Scientists is attached.
