Current Work:
I'm Project Manager of the NASA Astrophysics Data System, (ADS) a Digital Library portal for researchers in Astronomy and Physics developed and maintained at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. I am also the PI for the SIMBAD USA project, which maintains local mirror sites and services provided by the SIMBAD project. My current duties are:

Previous Lives:
I used to work in the Image Processing Laboratory at the Center for Astrophysics and then wrote some utilities to perform raster image conversions. Later when digitizing journals for the ADS I wrote some code to perform fast conversion of 1 bit/pixel TIFF files with CCITT group 4 compression (TIFF G4). Much of that code has been offered back to the maintainers of the libtiff library but only parts of it have been included and enhanced. Since I occasionally still receive a some inquiries about the code (now completely unsupported), let's make google happy.

Interests:
Given my job, I had to learn my way around protocols, parsers and publishers, and that's all good. But to combat the daily fatigue of slicing and dicing bibliographic data I try to keep up with some of the topics that most interest me:
