Thesis: ``A Precision Comparison of the
Antiproton to Proton charge-to-mass Ratios''
Experience
- Present Research:
- Double Bulb Rubidium Maser:
A novel atomic clock which may provide short term frequency stability
superior to that of a room temperature hydrogen maser, but in a
smaller and more robust unit.
- Laser diode optical pumping.
- Wall coatings which allow hundreds of bounces while
maintaining hyperfine coherence.
- Studying Laser Diode Arrays:
- Cryogenic Hydrogen Maser:
The 0.5 K hydrogen maser may prove the most stable
existing clock. Studies with the maser will also provide
improved understanding of low temperature hydrogen-hydrogen
collisions.
- 1990-1996:
Precision comparison of antiproton and proton charge-to-mass ratios.
- Cryogenics: maintained a 4K apparatus for ultra high
vacuum storage of antiproton and a 6 Tesla superconducting magnet.
- High resolution and high sensitivity radiofrequency
measurement necessary for measuring with a resolution of 10-10,
the signal from a single elementary particle.
- Study of magnetic environment: systematic study of the
spatial and temporal variations of the field from a persistent current
superconducting magnet.
- 1986-1988:
- Electron Beam Ion Trap - Measured the
electron beam energy width via radiative X-ray lines.
Programming
- Data acquisition in Labview and Pascal.
- Data analysis in fortran, C and Mathematica.
- Experience with forth, C++, assembly language and basic.
Teaching
- 1989: Teaching Fellow, Introductory Physics - Harvard.
- 1988: Head Teaching Assistant, Applied Mathematics - Caltech.
- 1987: Teaching Assistant, Applied Mathematics - Caltech.
Interests
Music, Frisbee, squash, French and hiking.
