Title: From Hero to Zero: following a super-Eddington accretor into
quiescence
Abstract: The properties of neutron stars accreting at near- or
super-Eddington mass accretion rates are poorly understood. How does
mass accretion rate between the various spectral states, and what is
the connection with the spectral states of neutron stars accreting at
much lower rates? In my talk I will present observations of a recently
discovered neutron star transient that provides somewhat surprising
answers to these questions. I will also discuss how the cooling of the
neutron star crust during the late phase of the outburst can help us
to constrain the properties of the ultra-dense cores of such stars.
