Reionization movie page

The following movies have been produced either from full-fleshed radiative transfer simulations or from semi-analytic schemes based on the excursion-set formalism. It may be good to load the movies into cache first and then start over, for smooth viewing:

  • Flying through the reionizing universe
  • This a flight through a 500Mpc/h box, viewing 21cm brightness temperature, from z=16 to 11. One case with recombinations a la Miralda-Escude (2000), in the other without. x_i is changing from roughly 0.1 to 1.0 during the movie. A constant color gradient makes evident that overdense (red) regions are over time consumed by bubbles in dark blue coloring. z_av(box=14.0, zeta=60. Resolution 512^3. Smoothing about 2 pixels. There's a .ps file in the same folder showing a sideways cut through the simulation box. without recombinations with recombinations

  • Comparison of radiative transfer simulations and simple analytic models. Box is 65.6Mpc/h, resolution 256^3. Smoothed corresponding to about an arcmin on the sky. Movie

  • This shows HII regions expanding with time, the redshift is 8, timing is such that 10^7 years pass per second of showing time. Sidelength 100 Mpc/h. zeta=10. Resolution 128^3, smoothed down to two arcminutes. anim1-4 are just different cuts through the simulation boxes. Movie 1 Movie 2 Movie 3 Movie 4
