POINTS spacecraft, deployed
JPEG
This view shows the POINTS spacecraft in its normal operating
configuration. The solar shield in the foreground keeps the instrument in
complete shadow and supplies its electrical power. It is attached to the
spacecraft by a dual-gimballed boom (shown in red), which permits arbitrary
orientations of the spacecraft while keeping the solar shield pointed
toward the sun. In the instrument box (light blue), the two viewing ports
of one interferometer and a corner of a third viewing port can be seen.
Also visible are the four reaction-wheel housings (copper color) mounted on
the bus structure (green), the star trackers (black), the tracking and
telecommunications antennae (purple), and the cold-gas thruster assemblies
(gray).
