This page shows examples of OMI observations related to Air Quality: Glyoxal (CHO-CHO), formaldehyde (HCHO), tropospheric ozone (O3), and nitrogen dioxide(NO2). Images cover the region around Indonesia, ranging in latitude from northern Australia to southern China (including the Pearl River Delta, north of Hong Kong). Monthly averages of all molecules are shown for the month of October, years 2005, 2006, and 2007. 2006 was a strong El Nino year that led to intense biomass burning events.
Formaldehyde (processed at SAO) and NO2 (processed at the Goddard Space flight Center) are standard OMI data products and are publicly available. CHO-CHO and tropospheric ozone (both processed at SAO) are currently off-line science products that will become publicly available in the future. "Boundary Layer" O3 (see individual image titles) refers to the lowest 2.5km of the vertical retrieval grid used in the vertical profile/tropospheric ozone retrieval algorithm.
