Director's Office: Who Does What
 

Lisa Kewley - is Director of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA). Lisa serves as the primary liaison with Harvard University to ensure continuity of operations and to fulfill the mission of the CfA, and is the primary point of contact with central Smithsonian administration, including the Office of General Counsel, real estate, facilities and more. At the CfA, she is implementing an ambitious new vision for the next generation space and ground-based telescopes, petabyte-scale data handling, new diversity and inclusion initiatives, and nation-wide education and outreach programs.

Michael McCarthy - (617-495-7262) is Deputy Director of the CfA, as well as Associate Director of the Atomic and Molecular Physics division. Michael works closely with the CfA Director to provide leadership and direction, both administratively and scientifically, to SAO.

Randall Smith - (617-495-7143) is the Associate Director for Science at the Center for Astrophysics. He oversees the five scientific divisions (AMP, HEA, OIR, RG, and SSP) of the CfA, and is responsible for decisions regarding policy and execution of science programs in the context of the SAO scientific strategic plan.

Kari Haworth (617-495-7267)is the Associate Director for Technology and Engineering (ADTE). The ADTE leads the engineering and technology development of SAO and aids the Director and the Executive Management team in the development and implementation of engineering & technology-related governance, operations, budgets, administrative, and management policies and plans to meet the strategic objectives of the CfA.

Marianna Terzakis - (617-495-7100) is the Executive Assistant to the Director. She handles the Director's calendar, correspondence, travel arrangements, and manages the routine operations of the Director's Office.

Susan Hessenthaler - (617-495-7102) is the Administrative Specialist that works directly with the Division Administrator to assist with budgetary and procurement requirements, processing financial transactions and establishing financial controls as well as office space, property and supply management.

Purvang Patel - (617-495-2907) is Executive Director of the Harvard College Observatory.

Nadia Whitehead - (617-721-7371) serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the CfA. Nadia oversees media relations and external communication, working closely with researchers and the media to highlight the center's research, activities, programs and events.

Sarah Hogan - (617-495-1490) is the Donor Relations and Events Manager on the Advancement and External Affairs team. Sarah is responsible for stewarding donor relations, coordinating advancement events and gift accounting.

Margaret Carroll - (617-495-7099) is the Administrative Specialist in the Director's Office of the Center for Astrophysics. She serves as liaison for the Director regarding issues impacting SAO/HCO relations, and manages special projects. She is the office space coordinator for the CfA, negotiating space allocations for divisions and departments with Associate Directors, Department Managers, and Building Managers, and oversees renovations and relocations.

Christine Crowley - (617-495-7103) is SAO's Fellowship Program Coordinator. She manages all administrative actions and details associated with fellowship awards at CfA. She also works closely with members of the CfA Postdoctoral Fellowship Selection Committee, the SAO Predoctoral Research Oversight Committee, and the Smithsonian Office of Research Training and Services. Howard Smith - (617-496-2198, Room M-219 at 160 Concord Street) is a Senior Astrophysicist and a special assistant to the Director, assisting in communications with Washington on scientific matters.
