SWS: Dr. Mireya Correa, Botanist (STRI)

Dr. Correa received her B.A. in 1963 from the University of Panama and her Masters from Duke University in 1967.

Dr. Correa's area of expertise is the systematic study of vascular plants with special emphasis in the Flora of Panama. In 1968, she started the University of Panama Herbarium (PMA), and during the last 41 years, she organized and directed it. During the same period of time she has taught at the University of Panama.

She received the Jose Cuatrecasas Medal for Excellence in Tropical Botany offered by the Department of Botany and the United States National Herbarium (2008, Washington, DC.), and Emeritus Scientist of the Year offered by Asociacion para el avance de la Ciencia (2008, Panama).
