HR: Employee Handbook: Benefits

Most SAO employees are eligible for some or all of the employee benefits offered by the Smithsonian. Eligibility may vary by benefit plan and will typically depend on the employee's appointment type, scheduled hours of work and age. Available benefits for eligible employees may include, but are not limited to, enrollment in a retirement program and the option to choose a variety of insurances, i.e., health, life and accidental death and dismemberment. The Smithsonian employee benefit program is summarized in a benefits booklet on the Smithsonian Office of Human Resources website. Additionally each new employee will have an orientation meeting where the benefits program will be summarized. For more detailed information about employee benefits, please refer to the appropriate plan brochure or contact SAO-Benefits@cfa.harvard.edu.
