The Electronic-Structure Problem in Theoretical Strong-Field Physics

The central goal of this workshop is to bring together experts in theoretical strong-field physics and electronic-structure theory. Optical strong-field calculations typically require very large one-particle basis sets, but tend to restrict the description of electronic structure to the single-active-electron level. Established electronic-structure theory can treat electron-correlation effects at a rather advanced level, but normally does so only for low-lying electronic states. In this workshop, we will discuss strategies for bridging the gap between these fields, in order to establish the foundations for what may be called ab-initio strong-field physics.
