The First Known Accretion-Powered Millisecond Pulsar

Dr. Deepto Chakrabarty, MIT

After more than 15 years of searching, the first example of an accretion-powered millisecond pulsar has finally been found. The failure to unequivocally detect more such objects remains very puzzling. I will describe a multiwavelength (X-ray, optical, infrared...) effort to resolve this puzzle through study of our newly-discovered prototype.
