My research activities have focused on STEM education. I study model based learning in science - conceptual changes using different visual models, in different orders. I carry out randomized control trials to examine the extent that college students transfer from science concepts to social political ideas - students who learned entropy from thermodynamic theory were more likely to be concerned about the disorganization over time in the social political system and were more likely to prefer tightened governmental control. I use survival models to analyze students. dropout rate in MOOCs, and investigated the extent that prior intuitive conceptions impact on the likelihood of dropout. I also study the advantage and disadvantage of students with dyslexia in learning science.
