Data Processing on the Hydra Cluster
SAO has access to a Linux based Beowulf cluster, called
Hydra. The cluster is located in Herndon, VA and consists of over 3000 compute cores (CPUs) and uses a Sun Grid Engine queuing system.
200 TB of public disk space is available for users.
Using Hydra
For detailed instructions and template scripts for running a job on Hydra see Running Jobs on Hydra. The examples given run a CASA script.
Note that Hydra can be used for serial as well as parallel jobs. The link above gives examples of both options.
We compared the time taken to run a job on the different Hydra disks - see the results at Comparing Disk Speeds on Hydra.
