Science Teaching through its Astronomical Roots

Project STAR, a high school physical science course based on astronomy, produced Project STAR: The Universe in Your Hands, a 15-chapter text with 39 hands-on activities, activity materials, a microcomputer-based spectrophotometer, and an award-wining videotape on student misconceptions, A Private Universe. Project STAR developed techniques and materials for teaching astronomy that are now used by thousands of students nationwide. The curriculum concentrates on mastery of three fundamental and powerful ideas: scale models, spectroscopy, and the inverse square law.

Grade levels: 9-12
