MIRAC2 Image of Saturn at 17.8 microns

The above image was taken at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on 17 September 1997 UT with MIRAC2 using a 17.8 micron filter (2.6% bandwidth). North is up and East to the left. This is a mosaic of four separate 40 second integrations obtained by observers Glenn Orton, Brendan Fisher, and William Hoffmann (and telescope operator Charlie Kaminski) in collaboration with the rest of the MIRAC2 team.

MIRAC2 was built and is operated by the University of Arizona and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The camera utilizes a Rockwell HF-16 128x128 hybrid Si:As BIB array. MIRAC2 team members are William Hoffmann (UA), Giovanni Fazio and Joseph Hora (SAO), Lynne Deutsch (BU), and Aditya Dayal (JPL).
