What's New?

  • Spitzer Warm Mission

After the first 6 years of successful science operation, Spitzer has entered into its second phase, known as the Spitzer Warm Mission, as of May 2009.
  • SEDS Program

The SEDS program is an Exploration Science Program in the Spitzer Warm Mission, with a total observing time of 2,100 hours
  • S-CANDELS Program

The S-CANDELS program is an Exploration Science Program in Cycle 8.
  • CASSACA Office in Santiago, Chile

Since mid-2013, I have also taken an active part in the Chinese Academy of Sciences' South America Center for Astronomy (CASSACA) program, with an office in Santiago, Chile. I am now an adjunct faculty in the Astronomy Department, University of Chile in Santiago.

Recent Development in Scientific Research

Spitzer's Warm Mission are well on its way into the fifth year of successful operations. During this phase, the Mission is devoting more time to long-term, large scale observing programs of exploratory nature. The observing results of these programs are usually made public as soon as the necessary calibrations are completed (no proprietary periods).

The goal of this program in to provide the first complete census of the galaxy formation history back to the era of reionization. By reaching to the near-infrared wavelength of 4.5 microns, this survey measures a large number of galaxies between redshifts 4 to 7, and down to masses as low as 5x10^9 solar masses.

The S-CANDELS program is in part a continuation of the SEDS observations, in collaboration with the Hubble/WFCIII CANDELS Survey program.
