Avi Loeb has been been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Founded in 1780, the Academy is an independent policy research center that conducts multidisciplinary studies of complex and emerging problems
Alicia Soderberg has been selected as a 2012 Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow, an award given to early-career scientists and scholars in recognition of achievement and the potential to contribute substantially to their fields.
Avi Loeb was awarded the "Cattedra Galileiana" (Galileo Galilei Chair) for the 2011-12 Academic Year at the Scuole Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy.
Nine ITC members (not counting incoming postdocs) were awarded prize fellowships in 2012: Laura Blecha, Smadar Naoz, and Meng Su were awarded an Einstein fellowship, and Kaitlin Kratter, Matt McQuinn, Stella Offner, Yue Shen, Jack Steiner, and Mark Vogelsberger were awarded a Hubble fellowship. This totals one third of all the new Einstein/Hubble fellowship awarded worldwide in 2012. (read more...)
The ITC will host three new Hubble fellows next year: Xuening Bai (an incoming postdoc), Mark Vogelsberger, and Jack Steiner, as well as one new Einstein fellow: Smadar Naoz.
Other ITC members were successful at getting faculty positions in 2011/12:
Avery Broderick (a former ITC fellow) started a joint faculty position at the Univ. of Waterloo and the Perimeter Institute in Canada, Charlie Conroy accepted a faculty position at UC Santa Cruz, Lijoun Gou accepted a scientific staff position at the National Astronomical Observatories (Chinese Academy of Sciences) in Beijing, China, Elena D'Onghia accepted a faculty position at the University of Wisconsin, Anna Frebel accepted a faculty position at MIT, Ryan Hickox started a faculty positions at Dartmouth College, Jon McKinney (a former ITC fellow) accepted a faculty position at the University of Maryland, Asaf Pe'er was just offered a faculty position at the University of Cork, Ireland, Hagai Perets accepted a faculty position at the Technion, Israel, Jonathan Pritchard started a faculty position at Imperial College, UK, and Brant Robertson started a faculty position at the University of Arizona.

Predoctoral Fellowships
Graduate students at institutions outside Harvard wishing to conduct thesis research at the ITC for a period of one year may apply to the SAO Predoctoral Program.
The ITC also has limited funds to support students wishing to conduct research at the ITC for a period of one to three months. For more information, please email itcinfo[at]cfa.harvard.edu.
AWARDS
The Eric R. Keto Prize for Graduate Students in Theoretical Astrophysics, endowed with a generous donation by ITC Senior Member Eric Keto, is awarded each year for the best thesis in theoretical astrophysics by a student at the CfA, as selected by the Senior Members of the ITC. Previous winners:
