School Program

Students will learn how (sub-)millimeter interferometers work, through a combination of lectures and hands-on demonstrations and will visit the Submillimeter Array on Maunakea, learning how the array is run and how data are collected on the SMA. Students will be involved in collecting, reducing, calibrating, and producing images from SMA data, to be presented at the conclusion of the school.

As students will be joining from around the globe, lectures will be given delivered during two sessions each day: one session beginning at 0200 UTC, and another beginning at 1400 UTC. These sessions will cover identical material during each session, and as such, students are only expected to attend one of these sessions each day. Both sessions are expected to last approximately 3 hours a piece, and will include regular breaks and discussion periods. The schedule of the lectures is given below. After each day, students will have access to the individual lecture recordings and slides, for use during the latter portion of the school (i.e., data reduction sessions).
