- Issue 2 - Status for SMA Miriad_WB development
- Integer type issue -
Some uv routines are running into troubles for handling uv datasets with a
large size produced from SMA because the default integer type of 32 bits is used in most Miriad Fortran routines.
A temporary/tentative solution:
While request SMA for adding man power, we have implemented pre-processing routines to separate
the uv-data produced from hybrid ASIC and SWARM correlators into subsets.
In the same process, the size of
a SWARM dataset is reduced to be tolerant to most of Miriad distributions ; thus users can continue to use the globally distributed, stable Miriad packages from ATNF,
CARMA, SMA as well as some self-maintained Miriad (most of them stay on 32bits integer) from users or individual research groups
for Mac, Ubuntu, Suse, Fedora, centOS and etc. Such a setup had been working smoothly until
a major desktop failure in late July 2016.

Lately, since January this year, the online data have frequently reconfigured the internal data structure produced from the
hybrid ASIC and SWARM correlators due to the maintenance issue of the old ASIC machine with two failed crates.
Desktop machine -
Also, the computer (Dell Precision T7500) used for SMA Miriad development has been subject to internal disk failures for more than a year.
Frequent failures occured lately. The last failure in late July caused significant fraction of disk files lost.
Solutions:
Correlator machines - SWARM only, dropping ASIC(?)
Desktop machine - Request for purchasing a MicPro for replacement.
While sorting out the fund issue, we are configuring a lower-performance machine given by CF as a temporary solution;
larger RAM is being delivered. Installed CentOS 7 for software development; configured for Miriad_WB
development
- Seek for help from Miriad developers outside CfA -
With limited man power, we are barely able to support RH and CentOS,
we have communicated with outside Miriad developers for a possibility of supporting other OS.
