Putting a Face on Your Planet

Did you ever find it amazing that a detective can reconstruct a crime scene—just from a few scraps of evidence? Or that a scientist could tell what a dinosaur must have looked like—just from a few fossil bones millions of years old?

It's just as amazing that you can start to put a face on your planet - from what you've learned from a dot of light!

Use the Orbits Modeling Lab below to show what your planet is like.

How big should you make your planet, compared to the star it orbits? Use the "Tilt Orbit" button to produce an orbit that might correspond to the shape of your curve.

In Part 2 of Other Worlds, you'll learn how to create a much more detailed portrait of an alien world. Congratulations, planet-hunter! You've begun a great adventure!
