About

Vasilis obtained his B.Sc. in physics from the University of Athens in 2014. Then, he moved to Hamburg (Germany) to study mathematical physics, and obtained his M.Sc. from the University of Hamburg in 2016. He joined then the theory department at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter in Hamburg to work under the supervision of Prof. Angel Rubio on "Condensed Matter Systems in Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics" and obtained his Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in 2021. In his Ph.D., Vasilis focused mainly on 2D electron gases and quantum Hall systems under strong coupling to cavities, and showed that the quantum cavity field can modify quantum transport in condensed matter systems. During his Ph.D. he also worked on the stability and fundamentals of quantum electrodynamics. Since October 2021, Vasilis is an ITAMP postdoctoral fellow working on extending polaritonic chemistry to the ultracold regime, and on the control of quantum matter with quantum light.
