Description:
By creating unprecedentedly sensitive maps of dense star-forming cores, we found that line widths in cores are roughly constant, despite exhibiting a rising (turbulent) trend in core surroundings. We use our observations to argue that there is an "inner scale" of ~0.1 pc in the dense ISM, and that objects within this scale are the "islands of calm in a turbulent sea" where individual stars, or small groups of stars form.
