About

Colby is the Instrument Scientist for G-CLEF, the Giant Magellan Telescope Consortium Large Earth Finder. His experience in the field of astronomical instrumentation has spanned the electromagnetic spectrum, from the ultra-violet out through the mid-infrared. He has designed high and low-resolution spectrographs, imagers, interferometric beam combiners, and thin film coatings. He has also done contract work for NASA primarily in stray light analysis and suppression for spacecraft. He works closely with scientists and engineers to ensure that instrument requirements are met from analysis through assembly, integration, testing, and commissioning at the telescope.
